On March 20, 2004 Bandai launched Tamagotchi Plus, a new enhanced version of the original Tamagotchi virtual pet (originally released in 1996). Tamagotchi Plus is available in stores only in Japan. New Tamagotchis were also released to the European market in late May of 2004. These English language pets, going by the name Tamagotchi Connexion, are almost identical to the Japanese Tamagotchi Plus (only the language and a few minor items have changed). Tamagotchi Connection, the USA cousin of the Tamagotchi Connexion and Tamagotchi Plus, was released on August 15, 2004.

The Tamagotchi Connection V2 was released in the US in 2005 as a sequel to the Tamagotchi Connection V1. It had the same basic features as the V1, but included more characters, different games, and a newly added shop. Tamagotchi Connection V1 by Bandai. The Tamagotchi (たまごっち?, 拓麻歌子) tamaɡotꜜtɕi is a handheld digital pet, created in Japan by Akihiro Yokoi Template:Separated entries of WiZ and Aki Maitacitation needed of Bandai. It was released by Bandai on November 23, 1996 in Japan and May 1997 in the rest of the world, quickly. ​The original Tamagotchi was first introduced in Japan in 1996 and was a huge craze. It wasn't long before Bandai introduced it to Europe and North America where the craze grew further. By late 1998 and 1999, the fad has began to die out. Tamagotchi products became rarer to find until production was stopped altogether. Despite many fans pleading for Bandai to create a new Tamagotchi, they refused for years, until 2004 when they were reintroduced with many new features. They created hundreds of new characters as well as bringing some of the older ones back. These new and improved Tamagotchi were called 'The Tamagotchi Connection' in America, 'Tamagotchi Plus' in Japan and 'Tamagotchi Connexion' in the United Kingdom, and Europe.
